A gorgeous mountain overlook, a warm spring sunset and a strong momma-to-be — is there a more beautiful combination?? 

I was so excited when Patrick messaged me saying he'd like to surprise his wife Ashley with maternity and newborn sessions, in anticipation of their first baby boy after two sweet girls. (Husband of the Year award is coming your way, Patrick!)

​Ashley was my favorite art teacher back at Cave Spring High School, so to capture these memories for her years later is such an honor. I love how this job has a way of bringing people back into my life!

​It's easy to see just how deeply their little boy is loved already — especially by his big sisters, who can't wait to teach him the alphabet, math and how to wrestle in the living room! I can't wait to meet him in a few weeks!

Their girls made Patrick this bracelet, and he wears it every day!

I also love this one on the left — I asked Ashley to close her eyes and reflect on this journey with her little boy. 

I will jump at any opportunity to return to JMU, my first "home away from home," but especially when it involves photographing one of my favorite college seniors!

​I'm trying to think of the first time I met Melanie, but it really feels like forever ago.You see, my husband has been best friends with Melanie's oldest brother since they were 13 — so he's basically a big brother to Melanie, too. Their family is so special to us!

Being back on campus was a little different this time around, because I brought Tucker with me (for all those new to my life, Tucker is my 1-year-old son, not a dog, haha — although the first dog we met on campus was also named Tucker, go figure). We got there early, ate dinner at my favorite spot on the Quad and scoped out the perfect spots for Melanie's sunset session. 

I absolutely love how her photos turned out! She is such a natural in front of the camera. I also love that we were able to spend some time with her sorority family. These women were so fun to be around, and I know they will miss their Melanie!

I can't wait to see what the future brings this smart, beautiful and adventurous girl! Her passion for teaching children is so refreshing, and I know she has a fulfilling career ahead of her. 

Now, I can't end this post without giving a huge shout-out to Melanie's sweet mom Linda, who was my Tucker-keeper during Melanie's whole session! Thank you so much!
