The Caseys and I go way back. Back to when the thought of having my own photography business wasn't even a thought. Back to when Laura Richards was Laura Weeks, a James Madison University junior and one of their daughter's best friends.
Whenever I hang out with this family of four, I can always count on one thing: lots of laughter. That's because the Caseys have an incredible way of embracing silliness, awkward moments and puns (my personal favorite). Thankfully, our family session was no exception. As with all my sessions, I encouraged the Caseys to bring along something meaningful, something that would help tell their story. I wasn't surprised when one of their items represented a running family joke. "These are Mom's ugly birds," Kristina told me as she pulled two porcelain figurines from her mom's purse. For years, she said, she, her dad and her younger brother Jon have hidden these birds — her mom's favorites — around the house in hopes that it'll be a while before they're seen again. They also brought a massive rock in the shape of Texas, their home for 16 years before moving to Virginia in 2007. Hope you enjoy these highlights from their session!
