It's hard to believe, but fall is almost upon us! If your heart is craving family photos this season, but you aren't sure if the traditional field look fits your family's personality, here are a few other fall session ideas that might feel more authentic.
A fall day at home
This one is at the top of the list for a reason! To me, there's no better place for your family photos than at home. This feels especially true in the thick of cozy season! I'd love nothing more than to document your family jumping in piles of leaves, snuggling in your favorite chair, baking an apple pie together, decorating pumpkins, trying on the kids' Halloween costumes, or roasting marshmallows around the backyard fire pit. Family photos shouldn't feel completely separate from your life. In fact, they can fit really seamlessly into it!

On Film, With Love session
I'm so excited that On Film, With Love — my down-to-earth portrait experience captured exclusively on film — can now be booked as a regular session any time! The canvas backdrop is the perfect way to show off warm-toned fall outfits — and the warmth you share with your family. On Film, With Love emphasizes connection over perfection and the idea that the best photos come from simply being together.
Documenting a fall family tradition
Does your family do something special each fall? Let's document an adventure to Carter Mountain Orchard for apple-picking and apple cider donuts, or to your favorite pumpkin patch. Other ideas include a kid-friendly hike to take in the foliage or making a special seasonal treat like apple butter or pie.

Family picnic at a local vineyard
Grab a quilt, pack a basket with snacks, and let's head off to one of Charlottesville's beautiful vineyards. I'd love to document your family snuggling on a blanket, relaxing (maybe feeling a bit more comfortable after a glass of wine??), and playing together afterward. My favorite spot is Chisholm Vineyards in Earlysville — not only do they have beautiful views, but you're allowed to bring your own food and there's a huge yard for the kids to play!
