Imagine family photos as fun, lively, loving, and tender as these adorning the walls of your home. Now imagine what that would mean for your kids — to see their place in the world, how much they're loved, and that it's okay to be fully themselves.
That's what comes to mind when I look back at this recent On Film, With Love session. I've been working with their family since Mom's at-home maternity session with baby No. 2 — so I've seen all the different versions and personalities of their kids. We've worked together for both at-home and outdoor photo sessions, and it was fun to switch things up again for an On Film, With Love session.
If you aren't familiar with OFWL, this is my down-to-earth portrait session experience, done on my back deck and entirely on 35mm film. I launched this session offering with a canvas backdrop, and then introduced a fun color-block option this summer.
The result in this case is a collection of photos that speak to the heart of their family and prioritize connection over perfection. I especially love the few black-and-white images, because they remind me of analog photo booth strips!
Here's Mom's take on our time together:
"We've worked with Laura for years, and she has become the historian of our family's most precious moments. From maternity and newborn photos to cozy sessions at home and outdoor fall family pictures, she has documented so many seasons of our lives. I've always loved the way she captures light and the little details that make a family unique at various points in time. When she announced On Film, With Love, I was so excited to experience her work on film in a relaxed setting with my two crazy kids. I knew the photos would be beautiful, because they always are, but I wasn't prepared for how emotional they would make me feel! In just 45 minutes, she captured the heart of this season of our lives, including the chaos, the joy, the tenderness, the movement, and all of the little moments that I know will change over time.
Laura is such a lovely person and an incredible artist! She has a way of making everyone feel comfortable, which is why her photographs feel so honest and full of life. She isn't just taking pictures, but is preserving memories and creating something your family will treasure for generations, and you can tell, she puts her whole heart into what she does.
We feel so lucky to have found her, and my kids are so comfortable with her. Our home is filled with the beautiful artwork she has created for our family, and every time I walk by one of her photographs, I'm reminded how grateful I am that she has been there to document our story!"
